나체 고행자들과 달리 옷을 입은 편력수행자로, 아누피야 근처에 살았으며 수낙캇타의 친구였다. 붓다가 한번 그를 방문하여 나눈 대화가 파티카 경에 기록되어 있다. 밧가바 씨족에 속했기 때문에 이렇게 불렸다.

A wanderer who wore clothes, unlike naked ascetics, living near Anupiyā and a friend of Sunakkhatta, whom the Buddha once visited for a conversation recorded in the Pāṭika Sutta; he was so named because he belonged to the Bhaggava clan.
