木をめぐって争う二派の苦行者がバル王に裁定を求めたが、王は賄賂を受け取り公正な判決を覆したため、神々が王国全土を海に沈めた本生話で、祇園精舎近くの土地を賄賂で異教徒に与えようとするパセーナディ王を思いとどまらせるために語られた。

A birth-story about two groups of ascetics disputing over a tree and appealing to King Bharu, who took a bribe to reverse his fair verdict, causing the gods to submerge his entire kingdom beneath the sea, told to dissuade King Pasenadi from favouring bribing heretics with land near Jetavana.
