ヴィパッシー仏の時代、地居の神であった折、仏陀の入滅時に大地が震えるのを感じ、その偉大さを認めて心中で敬った阿羅漢。のちにサミタという名の王となり、おそらくメーギヤ長老と同一人物である。

An Arahant who, in the time of Vipassī Buddha, was an earth-bound deity who, on feeling the earth tremble at the Buddha’s death, recognised his greatness and honoured him inwardly; he was later a king named Samita, and is probably identical with the elder Meghiya.

遠い昔、シッダッタ仏を見て心が喜びに満たされた阿羅漢。

An Arahant whose heart was gladdened, long ago, at the sight of Siddhattha Buddha.

シッダッタ仏の時代の隠者で、弟子たちから仏陀の誕生を聞き、会いに行こうとしたが、旅を終える前に病にかかり、信仰に満ちて世を去った。おそらくヴィータソーカ長老と同一人物である。

A hermit in the time of Siddhattha Buddha who, on hearing from his pupils of the Buddha’s birth, set out to visit him but fell ill and died full of faith before completing the journey; he is probably identical with the elder Vītasoka.
