위빳시 부처님 시대에 지신이었던 이가, 부처님께서 입멸하실 때 대지가 진동함을 느끼고 그 위대함을 깨달아 마음속으로 경배한 아라한. 훗날 사미타라는 이름의 왕이 되었으며 아마도 메기야 장로와 동일 인물이다.

An Arahant who, in the time of Vipassī Buddha, was an earth-bound deity who, on feeling the earth tremble at the Buddha’s death, recognised his greatness and honoured him inwardly; he was later a king named Samita, and is probably identical with the elder Meghiya.

오래전 싯닷타 부처님을 뵙고 마음이 기쁨으로 가득 찼던 아라한.

An Arahant whose heart was gladdened, long ago, at the sight of Siddhattha Buddha.

싯닷타 부처님 시대의 은둔자로, 제자들에게서 부처님의 탄생을 듣고 뵈러 길을 떠났으나 여정을 마치기 전에 병들어 신심으로 가득 찬 채 세상을 떠났다. 아마도 비타소카 장로와 동일 인물이다.

A hermit in the time of Siddhattha Buddha who, on hearing from his pupils of the Buddha’s birth, set out to visit him but fell ill and died full of faith before completing the journey; he is probably identical with the elder Vītasoka.
