賢明な忠告に反して、木こりの森伐採を防いでいたライオンと虎を追い払ってしまう愚かな樹神についての本生譚で、動物がいなくなると木々が破壊されるのを見て、むなしく彼らを呼び戻そうとするという話であり、コーカーリカがサーリプッタとマハー・モッガラーナを侮辱した後、むなしく彼らの好意を取り戻そうとしたことに関連して説かれた。

A Jātaka about a foolish tree-spirit who, against wiser advice, frightens away the lion and tiger whose presence had kept woodcutters from felling the forest, only to see the trees destroyed once the animals are gone, then tries in vain to lure them back, told about Kokālika’s futile attempt to win back Sāriputta and Mahā-Moggallāna after insulting them.
