ชาดกเล่าถึงเทวดาต้นไม้ผู้โง่เขลาที่ไม่ฟังคำแนะนำอันชาญฉลาด ไล่สิงโตและเสือที่การมีอยู่ของพวกมันเคยกันมิให้คนตัดไม้เข้ามาโค่นป่า จนต้นไม้ถูกโค่นทำลายเมื่อสัตว์ทั้งสองจากไป แล้วพยายามล่อพวกมันกลับมาแต่ไร้ผล เล่าเกี่ยวกับความพยายามอันไร้ผลของโกกาลิกะที่จะเอาใจพระสารีบุตรและพระมหาโมคคัลลานะกลับคืนหลังจากที่ตนได้สบประมาทท่านทั้งสอง

A Jātaka about a foolish tree-spirit who, against wiser advice, frightens away the lion and tiger whose presence had kept woodcutters from felling the forest, only to see the trees destroyed once the animals are gone, then tries in vain to lure them back, told about Kokālika’s futile attempt to win back Sāriputta and Mahā-Moggallāna after insulting them.
