बुद्ध के समय अवंती (Avanti) के राजा, जिन्हें उग्र स्वभाव के कारण Caṇḍa अर्थात उग्र उपनाम मिला; उनका पीलिया रोग वैद्य Jīvaka ने ठीक किया और उनकी पुत्री उनके प्रतिद्वंद्वी राजा Udena की रानी बनीं।
