파탈리풋타 대신의 아들로 시가바의 벗이었으며, 함께 소나카 장로 아래서 출가하여 크게 성취하였다. 훗날 목갈리풋타 팃사에게 경장과 논장을 가르쳤다.

The son of a minister of Pāṭaliputta and friend of Siggava, with whom he entered the Order under the elder Soṇaka and became highly accomplished, later teaching Moggaliputta-Tissa the Sutta and Abhidhamma collections.
