  • カーシのブラフマダッタ王に王国を奪われた後、身を隠して逃亡したコーサラ王。処刑に連れて行かれる際、息子ディーガーユに「あまりに遠くも、あまりに近くも見るな」という謎めいた最後の教えを残し、それが後に息子を両親の復讐から思いとどまらせた。

  • A king of Kosala who, after his kingdom was seized by Brahmadatta of Kāsi, fled into hiding and, on being led to execution, gave his son Dīghāyu the enigmatic dying counsel “look neither too far nor too near,” which later restrained the son from avenging his parents’ death.
