카시의 브라흐마닷타 왕에게 왕국을 빼앗긴 후 은신하며 도망친 코살라 왕. 처형장으로 끌려가면서 아들 디가유에게 「너무 멀리 보지도, 너무 가까이 보지도 말라」는 수수께끼 같은 유언을 남겼고, 이는 훗날 아들이 부모의 죽음에 대한 복수를 단념하게 만들었다.

A king of Kosala who, after his kingdom was seized by Brahmadatta of Kāsi, fled into hiding and, on being led to execution, gave his son Dīghāyu the enigmatic dying counsel “look neither too far nor too near,” which later restrained the son from avenging his parents’ death.
