何年も献身的に仕えた後、老いて全ての栄誉を奪われ、陶工の糞車を引かされることになった王の雌象についての本生譚で、大臣となった菩薩の足元に身を伏せて言葉なく訴えたところ、地位を取り戻したという話であり、同じように放置され仏陀に訴え出たウデーナ王自身の老いた象にちなんで説かれた。

A Jātaka about a king’s she-elephant who, after years of devoted service, is stripped of her honours in old age and set to hauling a potter’s dung-cart, until she appeals wordlessly to the Bodhisatta as minister by falling at his feet and has her status restored, told about King Udena’s own aging elephant, similarly neglected until she complained to the Buddha.
