養母マハーパジャーパティー・ゴータミーが織った衣を受け取った仏陀が、より大きな功徳のためにそれを教団に施すよう頼み、次いで様々な布施、施す者、受ける者の種類とその間の清浄さの程度を説く経典である。

A discourse in which the Buddha, receiving a robe woven by his foster-mother Mahāpajāpatī Gotamī, asks her to offer it to the Order instead for greater merit, then explains the various kinds of gifts, givers, and recipients and the degrees of purity among them.
