ชาดกเล่าเรื่องเพื่อนนักเรียนสองคน คนหนึ่งได้เป็นกษัตริย์แห่งพาราณสี ส่วนอีกคนบรรลุปัจเจกโพธิญาณอย่างเงียบๆ และปลีกตัวจากโลก หลายสิบปีต่อมาเพื่อนผู้ตรัสรู้ไปเยือนกษัตริย์ผู้หลงลืมไปแล้วและสอนเรื่องการสละโลก เล่าเชื่อมโยงกับการสละโลกของพระพุทธเจ้าเอง

A Jātaka about two student friends, one of whom becomes a king in Bārāṇasī while the other quietly attains solitary enlightenment and withdraws from the world; decades later the enlightened friend visits the now-forgetful king and teaches him renunciation, told in connection with the Buddha’s own renunciation.
