බරණැස රජු ජනසන්ධගේ (Janasandha) වෙනත් නාමයකි; අන් අය රථ දහයකින් කරන දෙය ඔහු එක් රථයකින්ම කළ හැකි වූ බැවින් මෙසේ නම් කරන ලද බව කියැවේ.

An alternative name for Janasandha, king of Bārāṇasī, said to be so called because he could do with a single chariot what others needed ten chariots to accomplish.

බුදුරජාණන් වහන්සේගේ පියා වූ සුද්ධෝදන රජු ලෙස හඳුනාගන්නා ලද බරණැස රජෙකි; ඔහුගේ කථාව දසරථ ජාතකයේ (Dasaratha Jātaka) දැක්වේ.
