法（ダンマ）という天神、菩薩が、デーヴァダッタと同一視される悪神アダンマに対して徳を守り抜くジャータカで、彼の戦車は最終的に地獄へ落ちる。デーヴァダッタが阿鼻地獄に呑まれる運命を説明するために語られた。
