ヒマヴァーで捕らえられ後に調教師から逃げ出した象が常に恐怖の中で暮らしていたところ、樹木の精霊であった菩薩がその恐れを取り除いてやったという話で、常に死を恐れる比丘になぞらえられ、その比丘は象の前世とされる本生話。

A Jātaka about an elephant, captured in the Himavā and later escaping its trainers, who lives in constant terror until the Bodhisatta, as a tree-spirit, dispels its fear, told in reference to a monk perpetually afraid of death, identified with the elephant.
