ชาดกเกี่ยวกับช้างเชือกหนึ่งที่ถูกจับในหิมวันต์ แล้วหนีจากผู้ฝึกจนต้องอยู่ด้วยความหวาดกลัวตลอดเวลา จนพระโพธิสัตว์ผู้เป็นเทพยดาแห่งต้นไม้ช่วยขจัดความกลัวให้ เล่าเทียบกับภิกษุผู้กลัวความตายอยู่เสมอ ซึ่งคือช้างเชือกนั้น

A Jātaka about an elephant, captured in the Himavā and later escaping its trainers, who lives in constant terror until the Bodhisatta, as a tree-spirit, dispels its fear, told in reference to a monk perpetually afraid of death, identified with the elephant.
