本生故事，一头大象在喜马拉雅山被捕、后逃脱驯象师而躲入山中，终日惊惧，直到身为树神的菩萨为它解除恐惧，用以譬喻一位常年惧死的比丘，此比丘即是大象的前身。

A Jātaka about an elephant, captured in the Himavā and later escaping its trainers, who lives in constant terror until the Bodhisatta, as a tree-spirit, dispels its fear, told in reference to a monk perpetually afraid of death, identified with the elephant.
