喉が渇いた猿の渇きを癒すため井戸から水を汲んでやる親切なバラモンについての本生譚で、猿は威嚇するように歯をむき出しにし彼の頭に糞を落として逃げるという話であり、この恩知らずの猿は後に提婆達多の前生と、バラモンは仏陀自身と特定される。

A Jātaka about a kind brahmin who draws water from a well to quench a thirsty monkey’s thirst, only for the monkey to grimace threateningly and drop dung on his head before fleeing, with the ungrateful monkey later identified as an earlier life of Devadatta and the brahmin as the Buddha himself.
