ชาดกเล่าถึงพราหมณ์ผู้ใจดีที่ตักน้ำจากบ่อให้ลิงที่กระหายน้ำได้ดื่ม แต่ลิงกลับยิงฟันขู่และถ่ายมูลใส่ศีรษะเขาก่อนจะหนีไป ลิงอกตัญญูตัวนี้ภายหลังถูกระบุว่าคือชาติก่อนของพระเทวทัต ส่วนพราหมณ์คือพระพุทธเจ้าเอง

A Jātaka about a kind brahmin who draws water from a well to quench a thirsty monkey’s thirst, only for the monkey to grimace threateningly and drop dung on his head before fleeing, with the ungrateful monkey later identified as an earlier life of Devadatta and the brahmin as the Buddha himself.
