Chuyện Bổn sanh về một vị Bà-la-môn tốt bụng múc nước từ giếng cho một con khỉ khát nước uống, để rồi con khỉ nhe răng đe dọa và phóng uế lên đầu ông trước khi bỏ chạy, con khỉ vô ơn ấy sau này được xác định là tiền thân của Devadatta còn vị Bà-la-môn chính là Đức Phật.

A Jātaka about a kind brahmin who draws water from a well to quench a thirsty monkey’s thirst, only for the monkey to grimace threateningly and drop dung on his head before fleeing, with the ungrateful monkey later identified as an earlier life of Devadatta and the brahmin as the Buddha himself.
