本生故事，菩薩是迦屍的婆羅門，出家為苦行者，與同伴到波羅奈乞鹽調味時受民眾供養，用以譬喻舍衛城兩位青年募款供養佛陀與僧團一事。

A Jātaka in which the Bodhisatta, a brahmin of Kāsi turned ascetic, and his companions are given food by the people of Bārāṇasī, told in reference to two young men who organized a collection to feed the Buddha and his monks in Sāvatthi.
