보살이 왕이 애지중지하는 국가 코끼리로 태어나, 질투심 많은 왕의 살해 음모를 피해 자신의 조련사가 다른 왕국을 얻도록 돕는 자타카로, 이 이야기는 부처님에 대한 데바닷타의 질투를 보여준다.
