아자따삿뚜 왕의 바라문 대신으로, 라자가하 요새를 감독했다. 목갈라나 장로에게, 또 그의 이름을 딴 다른 경에서는 아난다에게 부처님과 대등한 비구가 있는지 물은 것으로 기억된다.
