サンガミッターのためにデーヴァーナンピヤティッサ王が建てた尼僧院で、国有象を繋いでいた場所の近くにあったことからその名がつけられ、その敷地は後に拡張されたアヌラーダプラの城壁を跨ぐことになった。

A nunnery built by King Devānampiyatissa for Saṅghamittā, named for its location near where the state elephant was tethered, whose grounds later straddled the expanded city wall of Anurādhapura.
