상가밋따를 위해 데와남피야티사 왕이 지은 비구니 사원으로, 국가 소유 코끼리를 묶어두던 곳 근처에 있어 그 이름을 얻었으며, 그 부지는 후에 확장된 아누라다푸라 성벽에 걸쳐지게 되었다.

A nunnery built by King Devānampiyatissa for Saṅghamittā, named for its location near where the state elephant was tethered, whose grounds later straddled the expanded city wall of Anurādhapura.
