王舎城の遊女サーラヴァティーの子で、生まれてすぐ捨てられアバヤ王子に救われた高名な医師。タッカシラーで長年修行を積み、後にビンビサーラ王、後宮、仏陀の僧団の専属医となった。

A celebrated physician, son of the Rājagaha courtesan Sālavatī, abandoned at birth and rescued by Prince Abhaya, who trained for years at Takkasilā and went on to become personal physician to King Bimbisāra, the royal harem, and the Buddha’s order of monks.
