라자가하의 유녀 살라바티의 아들로 태어나자마자 버려졌다가 아바야 왕자에게 구출된 명의로, 탁카실라에서 여러 해 수련한 뒤 빔비사라 왕과 왕실 후궁들, 그리고 부처님의 승단의 전속 의사가 되었다.

A celebrated physician, son of the Rājagaha courtesan Sālavatī, abandoned at birth and rescued by Prince Abhaya, who trained for years at Takkasilā and went on to become personal physician to King Bimbisāra, the royal harem, and the Buddha’s order of monks.
