රාජගහ නගරයේ ගණිකාවක් වූ සාලවතී‍ගේ පුත්‍රයා වන අතර උපතේදීම අත්හරින ලද අබය කුමරු විසින් ගලවා ගන්නා ලද කීර්තිමත් වෛද්‍යවරයෙකි. තක්ෂශිලාවේ වසර ගණනාවක් අධ්‍යාපනය ලැබූ ඔහු පසුව බිම්බිසාර රජු, රාජකීය අන්තඃපුරය සහ බුදුන් වහන්සේගේ භික්ෂු සංඝයාගේ පෞද්ගලික වෛද්‍යවරයා විය.

A celebrated physician, son of the Rājagaha courtesan Sālavatī, abandoned at birth and rescued by Prince Abhaya, who trained for years at Takkasilā and went on to become personal physician to King Bimbisāra, the royal harem, and the Buddha’s order of monks.
