카알라바후라는 짓궂은 원숭이에게 궁정의 관심을 빼앗기는 앵무새 형제에 관한 자타카로, 아이들이 원숭이의 장난에 겁을 먹게 되어 형제 중 하나가 예견한 대로 원숭이가 쫓겨난다는 이야기이며, 데바닷타가 코끼리 날라기리로 부처님의 목숨을 노린 시도와 관련해 설해졌다.

A birth story about two parrot brothers who lose the royal court’s attention to a mischievous monkey named Kālabāhu, until the children grow frightened of the monkey’s tricks and it is sent away just as one brother had foreseen, told in reference to Devadatta’s attempt on the Buddha’s life with the elephant Nāḷāgiri.
