雌鹿への深い愛ゆえに危険を承知で収穫期の村までついていく山の牡鹿についての本生譚で、雌鹿は逃げおおせるが牡鹿は待ち伏せていた猟師に捕えられ殺されてしまい、これを見ていた森の女神が、他者の支配に身を委ねることを含む三種の恥辱についての教えを引き出したという話である。

A Jātaka about a mountain stag whose devotion to a doe leads him to follow her into a village at harvest time despite the danger, only to be caught and killed by ambushing hunters while she escapes, witnessed by a forest deity who draws from it teachings on three kinds of infamy, including yielding oneself to another’s domination.
