The state elephant of King Duṭṭhagāmaṇī, of the Chaddanta race, who served him throughout his military campaigns and disabled the elephant of the rival king Eḷāra in single combat.

The fisherman who discovered the abandoned elephant later named Kaṇḍula and reported the find to the king.
