『スッタニパータ』義品（Aṭṭhakavagga）第十一経で、争いが愛着からいかに生じるかを考察し、瞋恚に悩む集会に説かれ、マハーパジャーパティー（Mahāpajāpatī）の出家を促したと伝えられる。
