Kandagalaka Jātaka
Jātakaアカシアの森でカンダガーラカという友と食べ物を分け合うキツツキについての本生譚で、その友は思い上がって警告を無視し、一人で幹をつつき続けてくちばしを折って死んでしまうという話であり、提婆達多が仏陀を模倣しようとした自滅的な企てに関連して説かれた。
A birth story about a woodpecker who shares food from an acacia wood with his friend Kandagalaka, who grows proud and, ignoring warnings, pecks at a trunk on his own until he breaks his beak and dies, told in reference to Devadatta’s self-destructive attempts to imitate the Buddha.
