नालंदा में दी गई एक देशना, जिसमें बुद्ध एक गृहस्थ के अनुरोध—अनुयायी जीतने हेतु चमत्कार की अनुमति देने—को अस्वीकार करते हैं, इसके बजाय एक भिक्षु का दृष्टांत सुनाते हैं जो स्वर्गों में व्यर्थ ढूँढता है कि महाभूत कहाँ समाप्त होते हैं, अंततः उसे यह उत्तर स्वयं बुद्ध से ही मिलता है।

A discourse at Nāḷandā in which the Buddha refuses a householder’s request to authorize a miracle to win converts, instead relating the parable of a monk who searches the heavens in vain for where the elements cease, only to learn the answer from the Buddha himself.
