숲에서 아라한과를 얻은 장로로, 명상에 몰입해 있는 동안 도둑떼가 그를 그루터기로 착각하여 훔친 물건을 그 위에 쌓아 올렸고, 이로 인해 카누(그루터기)라는 이름을 얻었다.

A thera who attained Arahantship in the forest and, while absorbed in meditation, was mistaken for a tree stump by a gang of thieves who piled their loot on him, earning him the name Khāṇu (‘stump’).
