พระเถระผู้บรรลุอรหัตผลในป่า และขณะที่หมกมุ่นอยู่ในสมาธิ ถูกกลุ่มโจรเข้าใจผิดว่าเป็นตอไม้จนนำของโจรกรรมมากองทับบนตัวท่าน จึงได้ชื่อว่าขาณุ (แปลว่า “ตอไม้”)

A thera who attained Arahantship in the forest and, while absorbed in meditation, was mistaken for a tree stump by a gang of thieves who piled their loot on him, earning him the name Khāṇu (‘stump’).
