五百人の案内人を率いる森の民（菩薩）についてのジャータカで、仲間が逃げる中、彼一人が踏みとどまり隊商を襲う盗賊を追い払い、英雄的行いをなす者は命を軽んじなければならないと説く。務めへの気力を失った比丘に関連して語られた。

A Jātaka about a forester, the Bodhisatta, leader of five hundred guides, who alone stood his ground and drove off robbers attacking a caravan while his companions fled, explaining that one who would do heroic deeds must hold life lightly — told with reference to a monk who had lost energy in his duties.
