아들이 물 부족으로 죽을 것이라는 예언을 받은 바라나시 왕으로, 주변의 물이 모두 말라버렸을 때 벽지불의 발우를 더럽혀 불길에 휩싸여 죽었으며, 이 사건으로 슬픔에 잠긴 왕은 집착을 버리게 되었다. 그는 『담맛다자 자타카』의 찻타파니와 동일시된다

King of Bārāṇasī whose son, prophesied to die from lack of water, perished in flames after desecrating a Pacceka Buddha’s bowl when all nearby water dried up, an event that led the grieving king to renounce attachment; he is identified with Chattapāṇi of the Dhammaddhaja Jātaka.
