ชาดกเล่าเรื่องรุกขเทวดาผู้สิงสถิตในต้นไม้ใหญ่ที่ตัวสั่นด้วยลางร้ายเมื่อเห็นนกตัวเล็กมาอาศัยอยู่ที่นั่น เพราะมูลของมันจะงอกเป็นต้นไม้ที่ในที่สุดอาจปกคลุมและฆ่าต้นไม้ที่ตนอาศัยอยู่นั้นเอง เล่าแก่ภิกษุห้าร้อยรูปผู้เสี่ยงต่อกิเลสอันไม่เป็นกุศล เพื่อสอนบทเรียนเรื่องการระแวงในสิ่งที่ควรระแวง

A Jātaka in which a tree-spirit inhabiting a great tree trembles with foreboding on seeing a small bird take up residence there, since its droppings would eventually sprout trees that could overwhelm and kill the very tree it depends on, told to five hundred monks at risk of unwholesome desires as a lesson in distrusting what deserves distrust.
