서두 이야기에서 코삼비(Kosambī) 비구들이 격렬한 다툼에 빠지자, 붓다가 인내의 교훈으로 코살라(Kosala)의 디기티(Dīghīti) 왕 이야기를 들려준 뒤 그들을 다툼 속에 남겨두고 떠났다는 자타카로, 본생담 자체는 그 이야기의 일부만을 담고 있다.

A Jātaka whose framing story recounts how the monks of Kosambī fell into bitter quarrelling, prompting the Buddha to tell them the tale of King Dīghīti of Kosala as a lesson in forbearance before leaving them to their dispute; the birth-story itself preserves only a fragment of that tale.
