一則本生故事，其緣起講述憍賞彌城比丘因瑣事激烈爭執，佛陀因而講述拘薩羅王長壽王的故事以勸誡忍讓，隨後離開這群比丘任其自行了斷紛爭；本生正文只保留了長壽王故事的一小部分。

A Jātaka whose framing story recounts how the monks of Kosambī fell into bitter quarrelling, prompting the Buddha to tell them the tale of King Dīghīti of Kosala as a lesson in forbearance before leaving them to their dispute; the birth-story itself preserves only a fragment of that tale.
