스물아홉 명의 도반이 아라한과를 얻기까지 정진하는 동안 숲속 처소로 가는 길에 마음이 흔들려, 밤에 지나친 정진으로 넓적다리가 부러진 비구로, 부처님이 유사한 전생 이야기를 들려주셨으나 결국 그 자신도 아라한과를 얻었다고 전해진다.
