ภิกษุผู้จิตใจหวั่นไหวระหว่างเดินทางไปยังที่พำนักในป่า ขณะที่เพื่อนสหายทั้งยี่สิบเก้าองค์เดินหน้าจนบรรลุอรหัตผล และเมื่อเพียรพยายามอย่างเกินกำลังในยามค่ำคืนจนขาหักไป พระพุทธเจ้าจึงตรัสเล่าเรื่องคล้ายกันในชาติก่อน แต่กล่าวกันว่าในที่สุดท่านก็บรรลุอรหัตผลได้เอง
