猟師スーラ（Sura）と苦行者ヴァルナ（Varuṇa）を通じて酒の起源を説き、ジャンブディーパ（Jambudīpa）全土を滅ぼす前に帝釈天（Sakka）が地上に降り立ちサッバミッタ（Sabbamitta）王を説得して禁酒させた次第を語るジャータカ。

A Jātaka explaining the origin of intoxicating drink through the forester Sura and the ascetic Varuṇa, and how Sakka descended to earth to persuade King Sabbamitta to renounce it before it destroyed all Jambudīpa.
