菩薩が羚羊として猟師の待ち伏せを逃れた物語を語るジャータカで、その猟師はDevadattaと同一視され、この話はDevadattaが仏陀に企てた陰謀に関連して語られた。

羚羊（菩薩）、キツツキ（Sāriputta）、亀（Mahā-Moggallāna）という三匹の動物の友がDevadattaと同一視される猟師を共に出し抜くジャータカで、この物語はBharhutストゥーパに彫刻されている。
