ラージャガハの南西にある森で、スッパティッタ廟がある場所であり、ブッダが悟りを開いた後に初めてこの都市を訪れた際に滞在し、ビンビサーラ王が大勢の随行者とともに礼拝に訪れ、後に竹林精舎を教団に寄進した場所である

A grove southwest of Rājagaha containing the Suppatiṭṭha shrine, where the Buddha stayed on his first visit to the city after his Enlightenment and where King Bimbisāra, with a great following, came to pay homage and later donated the Bamboo Grove to the Order.
