  • 慈悲を乞うたにもかかわらず粗暴な象に巣を踏みつぶされたウズラが、カラス、ハエ、カエルを募って象を崖から盲目的に導き死に至らしめる本生話で、デーヴァダッタに関連して、また釈迦族とコーリヤ族の争いの際に弱い生き物でも強大な者を滅ぼせることを示すために引用された。

  • A birth-story about a quail whose nest was trampled by a rogue elephant despite her plea for mercy, and who, enlisting a crow, a fly and a frog, engineered the elephant’s death by leading it blindly over a precipice, told in reference to Devadatta and cited during the Sākyan-Koliyan dispute to show even a weak creature can destroy the mighty.
