一则本生故事，讲菩萨曾为一名裸形苦行者，以种种极端苦行考验其效验，临终方悟自苦并无用处，此事因还俗僧欲那伽多诽谤佛陀之道不能灭苦而被提起。

A Jātaka in which the Bodhisatta, once a naked ascetic who endured extreme austerities to test their worth, recognizes on his deathbed that self-mortification is futile, told in response to the former monk Sunakkhatta’s claim that the Buddha’s path does not end suffering.
