불길한 징조와 함께 태어나 가족이 마을에서 쫓겨난 어부의 아들로, 일곱 살에 사리뿟따에게 출가하여 아라한과를 얻었으나 죽을 때까지 걸식에 있어 만성적인 불운에 시달렸고, 결국 사리뿟따가 그를 위해 제대로 된 식사를 마련해 주었다.

A fisherman’s son born under such an ill omen that his family was driven from their village, who was ordained by Sāriputta at age seven and, despite attaining Arahantship, remained plagued by chronic bad luck in receiving alms until his death, when Sāriputta finally secured him a proper meal.
